Most photographers will usually make basic adjustments to your photographs such as colour correction, white balance, and cropping. However, retouching requires additional expertise. Photo retouching is the process of altering an image to ensure that you receive the final “look” you wish to achieve.
In the case of a portrait, work might be done to mask blemishes, smooth skin, and whiten teeth. You may wish to thin the face or enhance the eyes. It is also possible to perform actions like changing hair colour or enhance the body. Highlights may also be added to a product to create depth. The types of edits made to an image will depend on your requirements and be priced accordingly.
The two sets of images below may help you to gain an idea of what can be achieved.

Retouching service
1. Some work is needed on the skin to improve the appearance of pigmentation. Prominent freckles and some lines on the forehead also need to be removed.
2. The first stage is smoothing out and blending the skin colour.
3. Further work to smooth out the harsh contrast especially on her left cheek. A little work was done on enhancing her eyes and changing the shape of her mouth.
4. Final photo. The background has been blurred to highlight the person. I have overdone this to show you what can be done. The main thing is that the final picture still looks natural. Freckles have been blended and not totally removed. In some cases enhancing freckles works well too.
